Our mission is to bring together all people to celebrate the beauty of women's voices in an integrative, family friendly festival that acts as a beacon of Light powerfully and positively impacting the City of Denton.
Meet the Creators
Kutumba Yoga- Rachael Patterson has always wanted to create her own nonprofit to assist women. After receiving her Yoga Teacher certification it became clear how. Kutumba Yoga is a nonprofit yoga studio catering to families where parents and children can practice separately. Their biggest event is the Day of Giving and Thanks, a health and wellness festival that collects for The North Texas Food Bank.
This is the first year of Goddesses of Light music festival and already the participation it overflowing. At first it was a one day indoor concert and quickly grew into a two part outdoor festival. I have been contacted by countless people from out of state interested in attending. I believe this festival will continue to increase the attention Denton receives as a live music destination. A big goal with this festival is to generate positivity in the community. Many of these women have messages about self love, healing, supporting local community, and nurturing the planet.
Thia's Story
For the past year and a half I have been blessed to travel bits of the country with an amazing musician. Her passion for music and talent for percussion made her a sought out gun for hire to many independent female artists. Her debut at the Amazon Music Festival opened many opportunities for the next summer. After playing these monumental women’s festivals, we noticed we continued to be the youngest people there. When we attended the infamous National Women’s Music Festival this became apparent as we were approached by many of the crew, audience, and artists about how they could get the younger generation involved. They are concerned no one will be there to take things over and continue giving women a place to have a positive voice in music. They look to the youth to pick up the torch and this is my intention. I cannot bring the youth to them but I can bring them to the youth. The purpose of this festival is to give talented female artists a place to shine their light, and continue in the tradition of Women’s Music. Many of these festivals have been primarily attended by women, but Goddesses of Light Music Festival is all inclusive. All of the acts are female fronted however, there will be men in musical supporting roles joining them onstage. I want to show that women’s music is for everyone and should be shared openly for all.
Join us November 6th-8th 2015 for the first ever Goddesses of Light Music Festival and see for yourself.
Two Dollars of every ticket sold will be donated to Katumba Yoga. Katumba Yoga is a non-profit yoga studio based in Dallas providing free yoga to women and children recovering from abusive situations.
